Hungry Nerd, a delicious and affordable steak restaurant in Ratchathewi, Bangkok

Hungry Nerd is a popular steak restaurant in the Ratchathewi area that takes meticulous care with its ingredients, preparing everything fresh every day. That's where the name comes from: it means a hungry nerd obsessed with creating great, top-quality steak dishes.
Inside, the restaurant is decorated in bright colours that take you back to your childhood. The whole place has a comic-book feel, from the menu to the little gimmicks dotted around, with cartoon designs on the walls, so there are loads of cute photo spots.

Every dish on the menu is made from carefully selected ingredients, cooked with care and prepared fresh daily for the best possible flavour. That goes for the sauces too: there are 13 to choose from, and each one was created to go perfectly with a particular dish. Today I got the chance to try the restaurant's newest dish, the Mexican BBQ chicken steak (159 baht)

It's a Mexican-style chicken steak, and the chicken is soooo tender (add a million more o's!). It isn't dry at all and stays nice and juicy. It's topped with crispy fried bacon and tomato salsa, and finished with a sprinkle of fragrant fried shallots. The fries are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. As for the onion rings, I have to grumble a little because they soaked up a bit too much oil, but they were nice and crispy, and they come with BBQ sauce on the side. Overall I was really impressed: a tasty steak, a generous portion and a low price. Just perfect for people like us!
There are plenty of other new dishes worth trying, too.

The drinks are worth a look too. Today I ordered the Hungry nerd thai tea and Watermelon smoothie. Personally, I found it too sweet, but the Thai tea had a soooo lovely milky aroma. It comes topped with marshmallows as a little gimmick, and they're even torched. I loved those: not too sweet and super soft and chewy. There are other drinks to choose from as well; the lychee smoothie sounds good, for example.
