Authentic Southern Thai food, made to fiery original recipes from Nakhon Si Thammarat. The restaurant is in the Suan Luang Square complex on Soi Chulalongkorn 5. Inside, it's decorated in creamy white tones that make the place feel really warm, just like going home to eat with Mom.

Let's start with the first dish, which is one the restaurant itself recommends: “pad sataw kapi mu”, stir-fried sataw beans (stink beans) with shrimp paste and pork. The shrimp paste smells wonderful, really fragrant and not pungent at all. For me, the flavour wasn't too strong. Tender pork and crunchy sataw beans with hot steamed rice: absolutely delicious!

Next up is “kaeng liang kung sot”, a peppery vegetable soup with fresh prawns. The flavour isn't too intense, and it has a lovely aroma of pepper. The hot broth slips down so easily, and the prawns are huge too. I did find this one a little too sweet, and it would be much better with less sugar, but overall it was really good.

And the last dish we picked to try was “pla daeng thot khamin”, red fish fried with turmeric. The fish was fried beautifully, crispy outside and tender inside, fragrant with turmeric and with a light buttery note. The flavour was perfectly rounded. I secretly loved the fried turmeric sprinkled over the fish. So, so good!

I really love the way they serve the rice here. There's a cute little gimmick: it comes in a tiny pot, which is adorable. In short, this place is good: tasty food and prices that aren't too steep. It gets a pass from me!

The restaurant also has loads of other tempting dishes for you to try, like kaeng som (sour curry) with prawns and coconut shoots, khua kling (dry-fried curry) with pork cartilage, liang leaves stir-fried with egg, and sweet pork. The chicken simmered with turmeric looks delicious too.

There are noodle dishes too, such as khanom chin rice noodles with crab curry or with kaeng tai pla (fish-innard curry), and the Southern-style khao yam (rice salad) looks interesting as well. There are also sweet, fragrant, refreshing herbal drinks, or desserts like Lod Chong Wat Jet (pandan noodles in coconut milk) and grass jelly. Everything looks so good~

If you'd like to go and eat there, it's really easy to get to. Take the BTS to National Stadium station, then walk into Soi Chula 5. Or if you'd rather drive, that's fine too, because there's plenty of parking!
